A McElhenney (not a Mac) Reveals Season 18's Premiere Date (!?)

This afternoon, Rob's youngest, Leo, took to Rob's Instagram account to conduct an AMA (Ask Me Anything) on behalf of and unbeknownst to Rob (who was driving at the time). Hundreds of Rob's followers flocked to the comments to ask the McElhenney kid (who made it very clear he was a McElhenney, not a Mac, by spearheading the AMA with the hashtag #mcelhenneyovermac) various questions, related to Sunny or otherwise. One of the first answered (and arguably most important) was about when the new Season of Sunny would be out:

Of course, we cannot guarantee that this answer is reliable, as it came from Rob's kid and not Rob himself, however Leo advised in the video prompting the AMA (which has now been removed from Rob's account) that he would be asking his dad the questions fans asked and then reporting back with Rob's answers, so it is more-likely-than-not that "some[ time] in August" are words directly from Rob, himself, and not a potentially informed guess on Leo's part.

Further evidencing the claim that Rob was providing Leo with answers are other responses given to fan questions across the hour-or-so the AMA remained up:

However, it seemed clear that Leo was going off on his own for a portion of the AMA:

But whether or not this word comes from Rob or is simply an informed guess from Leo (or if neither of them actually know), August as a premiere month for Season 18 would make sense based on its production schedule. Season 18 wrapped filming in mid-April, and it typically takes them between two and three months to edit the Season, meaning a final cut of Season 18 would be delivered to FX some time in July, making it possible (and reasonable) for an August premiere date. (Further, Season 16, which also shot in the beginning of the year but had 2 fewer episodes, wrapped in mid-March and premiered in June.)

Leo's joyride on his dad's account didn't last too long, however he made sure to sign off before leaving:

As of the time of this post (3 hours after the Instagram video(s) and all related comments were purged), Rob has yet to address the claims made by his kid. It's likely he never will (in 2024 Leo took over Rob's Twitter account and the posts were subsequently purged and never addressed), but time certainly will tell if Leo has provided us with an accurate date! If the premiere is in August, we should be getting word soon (potentially, as soon as June 10th!).

Keep using #mcelhenneyovermac!
