This morning, the WGA finally updated its credits on Season 18 for It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, revealing the producers of the upcoming Season:
Sunny's credited Producers give us a pretty solid idea as to who was in the writer's room this Season, if not heading at least one script, so it's always interesting to take a look at these credits, and given they were published post-filming, they should be very accurate (however as with anything on an editable site, they are also subject to deletions or additions).
In addition to RCG and Hornsby (who are a given), Dave and John Chernin are back again as Executive Producers (having returned with Season 17), along with Rob Rosell (who returned with Season 15) and Scott Marder (who had an EP credit on Season 16, but hasn't been on a script since Season 12). Keyonna Taylor has been bumped up from Producer in Season 17 to Supervising Producer, and similarly, Ross Maloney was bumped up to Story Editor from Staff Writer in Season 17.
All of these names were expected and originally deduced, however there are two brand new names on this list, one of those being an Executive Producer, which comes as a surprise:
Vanessa McGee has no previous ties to Sunny (at least, none that I can find), however she is familiar with the Network (FX) and Sunny crew, having been an Executive Producer (and writer) on FXX's Dave, alongside Rob Rosell, Luvh Rakhe (Seasons 5-8), and Lee Sung Jin (Seasons 4-5). (Also, for some sense of confirmation that this isn't a misplaced credit, an upcoming screenwriting course in Maine credits her for Sunny.)
Biniam Bizuneh, the other new name on the list, also comes from Dave (where he served as a Story Editor). Interestingly, he is a standup comedian and an upcoming show lists Sunny as a show he's written for (seemingly confirming he has at least one script credit this year).
These two have presumably stepped in for Victor Hsu and Nina Pedrad, who were Executive Producers on Season 17, but are missing from 18. It should be interesting to see, if they are tied to specific scripts, how these new voices meld with the long-standing writers on the show. Ross and Nina, who are/were relatively new to Sunny, have penned some of the highest rated episodes in recent years (Dennis Takes a Mental Health Day and Mac and Dennis Become EMTs, respectively), so I am cautiously optimistic to see what Vanessa and Biniam's input will bring to Sunny this season.
So there we have it! 12 names to tie to the 10 upcoming episodes we're getting in Season 18. And while it's impossible to predict when, the update of producing credits is a good indicator that writing credits (a list of each writer attached to a certain episode, but not necessarily the name of any episode) will be the next piece of information we get for Season 18! I'll be sure to update here (along with my best guesses as to who belongs to what episode based on the BTS information we already have) as soon as those go live!
And with this information, I am crossing my fingers for Ross being on that Little League episode...
